Enterprise Lecture 6; Don't just get a job! / / Why not?

Very competitive in the job market in the current economic climate.

To set up own business:
- Low risk
- Specialisation
- Niche
- If circumstances change, go get a job.  There are other options.

BE PASSIONATE.  When things are difficult you have to want to fight for it.

Don't just look at the skills you've got- look at the skills you need.  Do what you do well, and collaborate with others for your weaknesses so you can learn and grow.

What is a business plan?

Why do we need one?

Where to find a business plan?
- Any high st bank
- Arts Council (more community based / / social enterprise)
- Writing a business plan: businessballs.com / / businesslink.gov.uk

Where to find funding?
Funding landscape has changed considerably in the last few years.
Banks no longer funding loans for small businesses.

- Help others receive grants that could pay your wage.  I.e. non profit organisations that could do with a site update.  These organisations could be in line or a grant.  Sorted.
- Crowd funding
- Cooperative?

 How to get organised?
- in a team?
- alone?
- employee?

Meredith Belbin: Organisational theory.
9 different types of people within a team.

All are (arguably) necessary for a business / / project / / team to work efficiently and successfully.
