The main aims of the session were to consolidate and resolve our main worries about entering a professional placement, along with identifying the main reasons as to why we are here and what we want to achieve.
With the first task (Why am I here) we found that most of the issues raised are things that are going to be addressed throughout the year.
The second task was much of the same. Most of our worries were void as we will be at that level or already are at a professionally paced level that works with the professional environment.
A few tips we were given in conversation, such as:
- When you get given a brief, whether in the work place or university, always explore further the potential of the project for the future. This sounds obvious but it's something I know I myself always forget to do. By doing this you show foresight, which reflects well.
- Turn up in studios with your portfolio. If they don't have time to see you, or say they aren't looking for anyone ask them if they have a moment to spare to reccomend someone else they may know of. -a friend, a business parter who knows someone who knows someone etc.
- Produce an address book with potential contacts, people who you have sent emails to etc. Write a brief explanation as to why you like their work as a prompt.
